New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton says the club has waived receiver Brandon Coleman and offensive lineman John Fullington.
Both players have been sidelined recently with injuries.
Coleman started training camp on the team's physically unable to perform list. Payton http://www.texansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jordan-akins-jersey , who discussed the moves after a practice at Tulane on Sunday night, says the receiver has hip and neck injuries that both will take longer to rehabilitate than initially anticipated.
Payton says he anticipates that Coleman will return to the Saints' active roster again. The coach did not specify when, but it is unlikely to be this season because Coleman will wind up on injured reserve unless he's claimed by another club.
Fullington has missed several recent practices with an undisclosed injury. But Payton says the lineman is slated to visit a physician who specializes in sports hernia and groin area repairs.
NEW YORK — The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t currently occupying a playoff spot, but manager Dave Roberts spoke confidently Wednesday about playing in the postseason. New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway, on the other hand, is beginning to sound like a skipper who knows his team will be long forgotten by October.
Two teams headed in opposite directions will square off for the first time this season Friday night when the Mets host the Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series at Citi Field.
Right-hander Zack Wheeler (2-5 Doug Flutie Jersey , 4.82 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Mets against Dodgers left-hander Alex Wood (2-5, 4.22).
Both teams are coming off series-deciding losses. The Mets suffered their third straight defeat Thursday when they fell to the host Colorado Rockies 6-4 in the finale of a four-game set. The visiting Dodgers were off Thursday after losing to the Chicago Cubs 4-0 in the last game of a three-game series Wednesday afternoon.
The series loss was the first in 10 series for the Dodgers (38-35), who are 21-9 since dropping two of three to the Miami Marlins from May 15 to May 17. The hot streak vaulted them from fourth place in the National League West to second place during the surge and gained 5 1/2 games on the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks, who hold a 2 1/2 game lead heading into Friday’s action.
In addition, Los Angeles has moved two games behind the Washington Nationals in the race for the second NL wild card.
The Dodgers did all this despite getting little to no contributions from stars such as Justin Turner, Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill Adidas Jeff Skinner Jersey , all of whom have been on the disabled list for the last five weeks, and Cody Bellinger, who has struggled most of the season. No wonder Roberts sounded so confident after Wednesday’s loss.
“We’re going to be somewhere in October,” Roberts told reporters. “I can’t speak to the opponent, but we’re going to be somewhere.”
It will take a miracle for the Mets (31-41) to be anywhere but a golf course when the playoffs begin. New York, which has lost 40 of 60 since an 11-1 start http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/dion-sims-jersey , is 11 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East and 8 1/2 games back in the wild-card race.
The Mets’ slide has been marked by extreme highs and lows on both sides of the ball. They have scored 42 runs in the last six games, a span in which the pitching staff posted a 5.14 ERA.
New York scored just 42 runs in 17 games from May 28 through June 15, during which its pitchers posted a 4.13 ERA.
“There’s no magic pill or magic wand to make everything sync up at the same time,” Callaway told reporters Thursday afternoon. “I think that’s been the tale of our season so far. Even when we’re not winning games, we have a part of us that’s going good. We just have trouble getting (everything) to sync up at the same time so we can get on a good run again.”
Wheeler didn’t factor into the decision in his most recent start on Sunday, when he gave up two runs in six innings as the Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3. Wood won the last time he took the mound last Saturday when he allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings in the Dodgers’ 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Wheeler lost his lone career start against the Dodgers on June 19 Youth Dion Phaneuf Jersey , 2017, when he surrendered seven runs in two innings as the Mets fell 10-6. Wood is 0-3 with a 3.94 ERA in eight career starts against the Mets.
He was celebrating in the end zone a few seconds later.
Fournette’s 21-yard touchdown scamper in an exhibition game against Atlanta was longer than any run he had during Jacksonville’s final seven games last season. It showed the kind of vision and burst Fournette lacked down the stretch as a rookie, and provided a glimpse of what the Jaguars expect from the centerpiece of their oft-maligned offense in 2018.
“I want to be great,” Fournette said.
With that in mind, Fournette shed more than 15 pounds this offseason in an effort to “take it back” to his college days. He now expects his second NFL season to look a lot like his sophomore year at LSU , the 2015 campaign in which he averaged 6.5 yards a carry, scored 22 touchdowns and finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting.
Fournette insists he’s eating better, conditioning more and even doing 50 push-ups a night.
“I would say it is probably one of my first years feeling healthier than I ever did before,” he said.
The Jaguars are counting on it making a difference on the field, too.
Fournette carried 268 times for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns in 2017. He scored seven touchdowns in his first six games, including on runs of 90 and 75 yards.
He slowed significantly down the stretch, missing two games because of injuries and another because of a suspension. The Jaguars led the league in rushing, averaging 141.4 yards a game Anton Stralman Jersey , but the ground attack was hardly the same during the second half of the season and the playoffs.
Jacksonville averaged 40 yards less a game over that stretch and was down a little more than a yard a carry.
The stalled ground attack reached a low point in the AFC title game at New England. Trying to milk the clock and preserve a lead, the Jags managed a measly 41 yards on 15 carries in the second half. More than a third of those yards (14) came on one play.
Fournette shouldered the blame, and the fourth overall pick in the 2017 draft decided to do something about it. He got leaner and fitter in hopes of gaining a little more top-end speed and becoming a three-down back. He also plans to get out of bounds more often to save his body from the pain and pounding that comes with a 16-game schedule.
“It’s Year 2,” offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said. “You always look at Year 2 being in the same system and understanding everything: the speed of the game, the offense. That’s always going to amp up your production.”
Jacksonville made several other moves to help Fournette.
General manager Dave Caldwell and football czar Tom Coughlin signed All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell to a five-year, $66.5 million contract in free agency. They also revamped the receiving corps by signing big-play receiver Donte Moncrief and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, then selected speedy receiver DJ Chark in the second round of the draft.
Caldwell and Coughlin believe Norwell and a few more passing threats will help create more space for Fournette near the line of scrimmage.
And for Jacksonville — which wants to win games by running the ball and playing stout defense — that could mean everything in a season with Super Bowl aspirations.
Fournette being leaner could pay dividends, too.
“I feel like he’s faster,” defensive end Yannick Ngakoue said. “I can tell he’s been working hard.”
Some other things to know about Jacksonville heading into the season opener at the Giants:
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE?: After finishing second in the NFL in yards allowed, points, sacks, takeaways and interceptions last year, Jacksonville’s defense believes it will be improved in 2018 . The unit returns 12 of its top 14 players, including eight starters who earned Pro Bowl honors in the last four years.
“We like to talk a lot of trash and back it up and make teams fear us,” All-Pro defensive end Calais Campbell said. “Our ultimate goal is to strike intimidation Youth Avonte Maddox Jersey , and people know that we know how good we are. That’s a good feeling to have.”
MISSING RECEIVER: The Jaguars will be without top receiver Marqise Lee for the season. Lee tore ligaments in his left knee in a preseason game, was placed on injured reserve and will have season-ending surgery. The team will rely on second-year pros Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook, one-year rental Moncrief and rookie Chark to fill the void.
POSTSEASON BOUND?: Jacksonville is looking for consecutive postseason berths for the second time in franchise history and first time since the 1998 and ’99 seasons.
Maybe, just maybe, the worst is behind the Phoenix Suns.
Their 50th anniversary season was awful, even worse than the two that came before.
For the eighth season in a row, the Suns won’t make the playoffs. The win totals the past three seasons: 23, 24 and – this year 21. That 21-61 mark is the worst since Phoenix went 16-66 in its inaugural 1968-69 season.
The season devolved in the final months, with injuries depleting the already exceedingly young roster, leaving a contingent of G League transfers to fill out the lineup in the final days. The Suns lost a franchise-record 15 straight in one stretch.
Now, everyone involved is insisting, enough is enough.
”I’m done with not making the playoffs,” rising star Devin Booker said as the players cleaned out their lockers and conducted exit interviews Wednesday. ”I’m serious. This is probably my last year ever not making the playoffs. If that’s putting pressure on myself, I’m going to take this summer and work that hard so that it doesn’t happen again.”
His goal is ”turning the franchise around and getting it back how it used to be.”
8”You watch the highlights of Barkley, Nash and them and how alive the arena was Authentic Lamar Jackson Jersey ,” Booker said. ”So one of my goals is to get it back that way.”
Booker, T.J. Warren and rookie Josh Jackson form the core of the young talent the Suns have accumulated. Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss could be part of it, too, although their development has been uneven.
But Phoenix needs experienced players, and not just old guys to cheer on from the sidelines.
”The voice in the locker room or the voice when they’re teaching carries a lot more weight when the person is contributing,” interim coach Jay Triano said, ”not just there as a teacher. … They need those guys on the court to follow.”
General manager Ryan McDonough agrees the time is come to ratchet up investment. To begin with, Phoenix has the most ping pong balls in the May 15 lottery and a chance at the No. 1 overall pick. At worst, the Suns will draft No. 4. They will have one, and maybe two, more first-round picks.
”We’ll be one of five or six teams with more than $10 million in cap space,” McDonough said, ”and I think we have the ability to create significantly more if we want it.”
So the assets are there if they can be translated into needed players, and not teenagers, except that early first-round pick.
”If you go beyond that I think the losing starts to set in and the guys start to become accustomed to that and the bar is lower,” he said. ”Next year we’re going to try to raise the bar. We’re going to try to raise our standards. We won’t be as young. We won’t have nearly as many young players as we had last year.”
A couple of things to consider after the Suns’ miserable season.
COACH SEARCH: McDonough said the search will begin immediately for a head coach with a list of five to 10 candidates in mind.
Triano would like the job. He took over after Earl Watson was fired just three games into the season.
McDonough said he would like to have a coach in place before the draft combine and lottery in mid-May.
BOOKER’S CONTRACT: The Suns would like to have Booker sign a maximum contract extension in the offseason and he’s open to the idea.
Triano knows that Booker is tired of losing and believes things will get better for his budding star with more experienced talent around him.
”He looks around the locker room and sees what it is and he knows that it’s time,” Triano said. ”I think the growth that he’s gone through individually as a leader and the capability he’s been able to show as a scorer has set the tone to make this an attractive place and to have him be the focal part of that. People around the league want to play with Devin Booker.”
KNIGHT IN WAITING: One of the biggest needs for Arizona is at point guard, and they’ve had one watching from the sidelines all season.
Brandon Knight, left over from the old days of three point guards with Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas, missed the entire season with a torn ACL. Once stuck at the end of the bench with no playing time when he was able to go, he’s being talked about as the starter alongside Booker next year.
”As a competitor, as a winner, I just love to play the game,” Knight said. ”I had the game taken away from me by the injuries and due to other things. … I’m just trying to help the Suns in any way I can.”
Lions wide receiver Golden Tate is headed into the final year of his contract and he’s been open about his desire to work out a new deal that keeps him in Detroit.
The Lions have taken a more leisurely approach as they see how all the pieces fit under new head coach Matt Patricia in his first year on the job. If Tate’s scouting instincts are on point Kyle Juszczyk Jersey , Kenny Golladay might give them something to think about when it comes to how to devote their resources at wide receiver.
Golladay had聽28 catches for 477 yards and three touchdowns while missing five games during his rookie season. Five of those catches covered at least 40 yards and Golladay’s size was also put to good use in the red zone, which makes for a package that Tate can see turning into a major weapon for the Lions.
“I saw freakish catches, man,” Tate said Charles Leno Jersey , via MLive.com.聽“Some real freakin’ freakish catches. Kenny’s still a young guy trying to figure it out, but he’s moving at a great pace. If he can just keep the mentality he has coming in, he studies, and just tries to get better every day Authentic Jared Goff Jersey , I’m telling you, this guy can be dominant. He’s a WR1 kind of guy.”
Golladay fits into a different offensive role than Tate, but a breakout of that proportion for Golladay could certainly impact a decision for a team that also has Marvin Jones under contract through the 2020 season.
The Broncos are set to get their final 2018 draft pick contract out of the way on Thursday.
Mike Klis of KUSA reports that the team will sign third-round running back Royce Freeman to his four-year rookie deal. Freeman is the last of 10 Denver picks to agree to terms on a deal and there are now 14 unsigned draft picks around the league.
Freeman ran for at least 945 yards in each of his four seasons at Oregon and picked up 5,621 yards and 60 touchdowns overall during his time with the Ducks.
The Broncos released C.J. Anderson this offseason Brandon Carr Jersey , which leaves Devontae Booker, DeAngelo Henderson, seventh-round pick David Williams and undrafted free agent Phillip Lindsay as Freeman’s competition in camp. Broncos coach Vance Joseph said last month that Freeman “absolutely” has a chance to wind up on the top of that group.
And he might just be the most accomplished and intriguing player in this class.
After capping his brilliant stay in Spain with another title, the Slovenian guard heads the list of international players expected to be selected Thursday, a teenager whose resume is already more complete than even some of the most season veterans.
”He may be the most accomplished European teenager to ever come into the draft,” ESPN draft analyst Jay Bilas said. ”You know, there’s very little that is unknown about him. He’s not some workout wonder that people are projecting. He’s accomplished things, and he has been seen in 5-on-5 against high-level competition for a number of years. He’s played professional basketball since he was 13.”
Doncic couldn’t join Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III and the other headliners in New York on Wednesday because he was en route from Spain after finishing off his dream season by helping Real Madrid win its ACB league championship Tuesday. The 6-foot-7 guard made a 3-pointer off one leg with the shot clock running down and Real Madrid clinging to a three-point lead, and his team held on to win the series in four games and allow him to get to Barclays Center in time for Thursday’s festivities, rather than stay behind for a Game 5.
He had already been the MVP of both the Euroleague season and its Final Four, the youngest player ever to win both honors, as Real Madrid won that title as well.
”I’m speechless,” he told the team’s website after Tuesday’s victory. ”It has been the season of my life. It’s incredible.”
The Phoenix Suns have the No. 1 pick and are widely expected to draft Arizona center Deandre Ayton, even though new coach Igor Kokoskov coached Doncic last summer on the Slovenian national team that won the nation’s first EuroBasket gold medal.
Then it’s Sacramento Deadrin Senat Color Rush Jersey , Atlanta, Memphis and Dallas, and any of them could consider a player who’s only 19 but has been playing against some of the toughest competition outside the NBA for years. And while there may always be some skepticism of European players because Darko Milicic bombed so badly after being taken right behind LeBron James and ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade 15 years ago, it would be a surprise if Doncic failed after all he’s already done.
”He should easily transition to the league really well,” Miami guard Lonnie Walker IV said. ”I mean, look at what he’s doing in the Euroleague. You’ve got to respect what he’s doing. You can’t say he’s not good and he’s the MVP and everything of that spot. So pay respect where it’s due. He’s a great player. All you can say is tell him to continue to work hard and prove everyone that’s doubting him wrong.”
Even with Ayton, a native of the Bahamas, and Doncic at the top of the list of international candidates, the strength of this draft is at the college level. Power programs such as Duke (Bagley and Wendell Carter Jr.), Michigan State (Jaren Jackson Jr. and Miles Bridges), national champion Villanova (Mikal Bridges and Donte DiVincenzo) and Kentucky (Kevin Knox and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) could have multiple players taken in the top 10-15 selections of the two-round draft, and teams looking for point guards could choose between freshmen Trae Young of Oklahoma and Collin Sexton of Alabama.
They could give the NBA a second straight strong rookie class 49ers Elite Jerseys , after Utah’s Donovan Mitchell, Boston’s Jayson Tatum and 2016 No. 1 pick Ben Simmons of Philadelphia all helped their teams advance to at least the second round of the postseason.
”I think it’s a transformational class,” Missouri’s Michael Porter Jr. said. ”I think we’ve got a lot of different kinds of players: Deandre, Marvin, the big dudes who are special, and then me along with a couple other wings who can do a lot of different things, and then point guard, Trae, Collin Sexton, and then I heard that Luka dude – I ain’t seen much on him but I heard he’s special, too. So I think we’re a great draft, one of the best in a while.”
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Lions linebacker Steve Longa’s season-ending knee injury represents a setback for a position group that already is a potential problem area.
Detroit used a first-round pick on Jarrad Davis last season and he appears to be a liability in pass coverage.
The Lions signed veteran free agents Christian Jones and Devon Kennard on the same day in March Vontae Davis Jersey , hoping they can be 16-game starters for the first time in their careers.
Davis, though, is the key because general manager Bob Quinn took him 21st overall in 2017 to play middle linebacker.
The former Florida star is strong against the run. Davis had 96 tackles last season, the most by an NFL rookie or first-year player. But against the pass, he struggled last season and has seemed to again during training camp and in the preseason.
The latest example came Friday night when the New York Giants capped a 17-play, 79-yard, nine-minute drive with a touchdown pass that exposed Davis’ weakness.
Davis Webb threw an 8-yard pass to running back Wayne Gallman, who easily got separation from Davis on a simple pass route in which he ran to the left and cut back over the middle. By the time Gallman caught the ball, Davis was about 3 yards behind him.
“You’re just going to refer to one play in the game, but there’s definitely some things there that we can coach better,” Lions coach Matt Patricia said. “And, I can coach better to help him.”
The Lions added Jones and Kennard, banking on them being an upgrade from Tahir Whitehead and Paul Worrilow.
Oakland signed Whitehead a three-year Authentic Alex McGough Jersey , $18 million contract — much more than Detroit would’ve offered. Worrilow signed with Philadelphia and had a season-ending knee injury during offseason workouts.
The 6-foot-4, 256-pound Kennard was a starter 11 times last season for the New York Giants, who used him as a starting linebacker in 35 games over four seasons. He had four sacks last season and has had 9½ sacks over his career.
The 6-3, 244-pound Jones started 11 games last season and 31 times over four years for the Chicago Bears. He had a career-high 11 sacks last season and has had 15 over his career.
Both players are fits as standup linebackers or edge rushers in Patricia’s defense.
“Kennard does a great job for us, doing whatever we ask him — coming off the edge, dropping in coverage,” Detroit safety Glover Quin said. “Christian is big, physical, athletic guy who can run downhill.
“Having that type of size and speed is going to help us throughout the year be able to do different things and be able match up and hopefully create some problems for the offense.”
NOTES: DE Cornelius Washington and CB Antwuan Davis were released and CB Dexter McDougle, CB Sterling Moore and OL Beau Nunn were signed.
Mike Trout has no interest in merely taking his cuts at the plate Authentic Mats Zuccarello Jersey , walking back to the dugout and waiting patiently for his next at-bat.
The two-time AL MVP wants to be part of the action in the field, too, and his zest for being a two-way player is evident by his numbers when doing so.
Trout celebrated his return to center field Friday night with a solo home run and an impressive catch, and the Los Angeles Angels snapped a six-game skid by beating the floundering Baltimore Orioles 7-1.
Back in the outfield after an ineffective nine-game stretch as a designated hitter, Trout hit his 24th home run in the first inning off David Hess (2-5) to spark the Angels to their first win in a week. Trout reached base three times and ran down a liner in the gap to rob Danny Valencia of a potential fourth-inning double.
”I like being out there,” Trout said. ”It keeps me in the game.”
Forced to play DH because of a sprained right index finger, Trout went 6 for 28 (.214) with 11 strikeouts and no homers.
Martin Maldonado also homered for Los Angeles, Andrelton Simmons had four hits and Felix Pena (1-0) allowed five hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings.
Like the Mariners before them, the Angels found facing the Orioles to be the cure for an extended slump. Earlier this week, Seattle notched a four-game sweep at Camden Yards after coming to town with six losses in seven games.
The Angels were reeling from a three-game sweep in Boston, where they were outscored 22-9, before breezing past the awful Orioles in the opener of a three-game series.
”Mike got us on the board, then we kept pecking away,” Scioscia said. ”It starts with pitching. You keep putting up those zeros and let your offense get going.”
Los Angeles led 3-0 before pulling away with a three-run sixth. Simmons started the uprising with a double and Kole Calhoun contributed a sacrifice fly.
Baltimore owns the worst record in the majors (23-58) Russell Bodine Jersey , and is playing at a pace to lose 116 games. The Orioles have dropped 16 of 17 at home and are 0-14 against the AL West.
”It’s the story again, we scored one run and nothing through eight innings,” manager Buck Showalter said. ”You’re not going to win that way.”
Hess, a rookie right-hander, has put his spot in the rotation in jeopardy by compiling a 10.70 ERA over his last four starts.
He’s really got to command the fastball,” Showalter said. ”If it doesn’t work out there, there’s potential for another role. But we’re looking for starters and he’s showed he can do it.”
TRIBUTE TO VICTIMS
The Orioles placed five lilies at the press box seat reserved for The Capital Gazette. Five employees of the newspaper were shot and killed Thursday, including long-time sports writer John McNamara Braden Holtby Jersey , who was shifted to the news side a few years ago but was still an occasional visitor to the press box. The team also held a moment of silence before the game in honor of all five victims.
Trout’s home run gave him 1,132 hits for his career, one more than Scioscia compiled in his 1,441 games.
Angels: SS Zack Cozart underwent surgery on Friday in Los Angeles to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Cozart decided on surgery after experiencing continued discomfort and following a second opinion. … Reliever Jake Jewell will have surgery Saturday to repair a fractured right leg, an injury he sustained covering home plate Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Orioles: Reliever Darren O’Day (left hamstring strain) was moved from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. He is considering surgery, which would probably end his season.
The Orioles selected the contracts of relievers Paul Fry and Paul Meisinger from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned pitchers Jimmy Yacabonis and Yefry Ramirez to the same club. In addition, INF Corban Joseph was designated for assignment. Fry and Meisinger both made their major league debuts in this game.
Angels: Tyler Skaggs (6-5, 2.69 ERA) Thurman Thomas Jersey , the starter Saturday, has gone seven innings and notched eight strikeouts in each of his last three outings.
Orioles: Andrew Cashner (2-8, 4.70) makes his sixth attempt at recording his third win. He has one victory since April 5.
The Los Angeles Chargers already feel like they're ahead of the game as they head into the second day of the NFL draft.
The Bolts began with an unexpected surprise in the first round when Florida State safety Derwin James fell to them at the 17th overall pick Thursday.
With one position of need already filled, the Chargers can concentrate on adding talent at almost any position with the 48th and 84th overall picks Friday.
The Chargers still would like to add depth on their defensive line, particularly with Corey Liuget suspended for the first four games of next season for failing a doping test.
They're also seeking depth on the offensive line and a playmaker at linebacker.
ENGLEWOOD Authentic Patrick Mahomes Jersey , Colo. (AP) — Nobody has more sacks in the last seven seasons than Denver Broncos star Von Miller, who has dumped the quarterback 83 1-2 times since his Rookie of the Year debut in 2011.
Miller’s sole sack of Seattle’s Russell Wilson, whom he’ll face for just the second time Sunday, came in 2014, eight months after the Seahawks throttled the Broncos in the Super Bowl with Miller sidelined by a knee injury.
Neither player seems particularly enthusiastic about facing the other in the season opener at Mile High Stadium.
“Russell’s elite,” Miller said Thursday. “Nobody likes playing Russell Wilson . He’s just elite, best of the best. As a pass rusher, you want a guy that when you get to him and you touch him, he’ll lay down for you. Russell’s the complete opposite.
“He’s probably THE most elusive quarterback out there. So, nobody likes that, especially if you’re a sack guy.”
Miller’s been a big fan of Wilson ever since seeing him outshine Matt Flynn in an exhibition game at Denver in Wilson’s rookie season.
“I feel like he’s been great since his first couple of starts in the preseason, when was that, 2012, when he just went off in the preseason? I think he’s been great. He really hasn’t looked back since then,” Miller said. “He’s a great quarterback. He’s done everything the right way, one of those guys who you want your kids looking up to. So, Russell Wilson is a great quarterback and I’m looking forward to playing against him.
Wilson is just as effusive in praise of Miller.
“He’s one of those guys that’s a game changer Authentic Rashaan Evans Jersey ,” Wilson said. “He can make some plays. I think the best thing for us is knowing where he is and playing smart football. When you’re playing LeBron James, or you’re playing guys like Kobe Bryant or Steph Curry, they’re going to make their plays.
“He’s one of those guys for sure.”
Miller always fancied himself more of a Dirk Nowitzki.
“Yeah, I thought I was Dirk,” Miller cracked. “It’s great, especially coming from a guy like Russell. I already told you what type of player he is and what he means to the National Football League. So, for him to have those words for me are amazing.
“I still don’t look forward to playing against him,” Miller stressed. “But it’s going to be a great game on Sunday.”
Teams have long schemed to keep Miller from destroying their offensive game plans like he did in Super Bowl 50 with a pair of strip sacks of Cam Newton.
They tilt protection his way, chip him with tight ends and otherwise force him to beat double teams most of the time.
The addition of first-round draft pick Bradley Chubb should ease some of that attention .
The fifth overall selection in the NFL draft, Chubb earned a starting spot opposite Miller but the Broncos have the best depth at that position in the league and can also unleash former first-rounder Shane Ray and Shaq Barrett on quarterbacks.
“Von’s still going to get chipped, and early on they’re going to obviously test Bradley (to see) if he can win one-on-ones away from Von. If he does that, then we’ll get more fair protections,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said. “But most teams are still going to turn to Von and chip Von. If they don’t, he’s going to take over the game.
“But it helps having Chubb opposite and having Ray opposite and even with our NASCAR package having our four pass rushers on the field. That’s always a good deal, too. It creates more one-on-ones.”
Chubb knows all about Wilson, who started three dozen games at NC State before transferring to Wisconsin.
“I actually got a chance to meet him when I was there at a game, so it was pretty cool Authentic Albert Wilson Jersey ,” Chubb said. “I didn’t watch him in college but now as a professional I see he makes plays with his feet and with his arms. He’s a great player.”
His interaction with Wilson basically consisted of asking for a selfie.
“It was more of a quick-type conversation. I came downstairs and he was right there and I said, ‘Hey, can I get a picture really quick?’ Took the picture, then he had to be on his way,” Chubb recalled.
He’d love to run into Wilson again Sunday in Seattle’s backfield along with Miller.
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — When the Arizona Coyotes arrived from Winnipeg in 1996, hockey was a niche sport played by a couple thousand players at the state’s three ice rinks.
With the help of the Coyotes and a big boost from Auston Matthews‘ rise to stardom, hockey is blooming in the desert as Arizona has become one of the fastest-growing hockey markets among states with NHL teams.
“It’s a really fun sport to play and people are seeing it as a new option for them,” Coyotes director of hockey development Matt Shott said. “You show and give hockey as an option to people and make it accessible to anybody, people start choosing it.”
In 1996, Arizona had a little over 2,100 registered youth and adult hockey players. The state had three ice rinks: two in Phoenix, one in Flagstaff.
Hockey had a hard time gaining traction in the early days of the then-Phoenix Coyotes and dipped when the NHL ran the franchise for four years after the former owner filed for bankruptcy protection.
Hockey has been heating up lately.
Over the past five years, total hockey registration has increased 109 percent to more than 8,600 players, making Arizona the No. 1 state for growth in the NHL. Arizona is third for youth hockey growth over the past five years at 88 percent — to 4,500 players — and is No. 1 in girls’ hockey growth Sam Koch Jersey , up 152 percent to nearly 800 players.
Tucson, home of the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate the Roadrunners since 2016, has seen a 296 percent growth in the last year alone. The number of ice rinks also has increased to nine statewide.
“I think if you ask people which team was seeing significant increases and which team was toward the bottom, for a whole host of reasons you probably wouldn’t think we’re at the top, but we are,” Coyotes president and CEO Ahron Cohen said. “It’s really an amazing story and a testament to a lot of hard work by a lot of different people associated with this team and in this state.”
Arizona’s demographics have helped with hockey’s rise. The state is filled with transplants, many of whom come from northern states or Canada who play hockey themselves or get their kids involved in the sport.
The Coyotes have given the sport a huge boost.
The franchise has donated more than 2,100 sets of hockey equipment to youth, adult, special needs and sled hockey programs the past five years. The Coyotes have donated $300,000 to local rinks to improve facilities and donated more than 12,000 jerseys to programs across the state.
The franchise also has committed $450,000 to the Coyotes High School Hockey League over the next two years, provided equipment and curriculum for street hockey in schools, and built four DEK hockey rinks in the state.
“We view this as a community asset. That’s my vision for leadership of this team,” Cohen said. “Obviously, we’re trying to do great things Tyler Ennis Jersey , it’s a business and everything, but at the end of the day what separates us from a lot of other businesses out there is every fan in our state and really throughout the whole world is a stakeholder in our organization. It’s our responsibility to be involved and grow the game at the youth level.”
With the increase in participation has come a rise in talent, both among the players and the coaches teaching them.
Arizona is home to several retired NHL players, many of whom help coach their kids’ teams, including Shane Doan, Ray Whitney, Derek Morris and Keith Carney. Local coaches have also worked on their coaching chops to keep up with the increasing talent on the ice.
Arizona teams have started becoming a factor on a national scale, including the under-15 Phoenix Junior Coyotes, who took third at the 2018 national championships.
More players from Arizona are being selected in the NHL draft, often in the top three rounds, not just the lower rounds. Matthews became the first Arizona player to be selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL draft and the first American to go at the top spot since Patrick Kane in 2007.
Matthews has lived up to expectations so far in his short career, becoming one of the NHL’s best players. His rise from Arizona grassroots hockey put a spotlight on Arizona as a hockey hub and gave players in the Grand Canyon State tangible proof that it is possible to reach the highest level of the sport.
Arizona-born Olympic silver medalist Lyndsey Fry has had a similar impact on girls’ hockey in the state.
“It shows that we have kids who want to play hockey, who can play hockey and can make an impact on hockey,” Shott said. “It’s not just some fourth-line scrub. It’s a top-line player in the hockey mecca.”
Hockey’s blooming popularity in Arizona could lead to more players like Matthews making a name for themselves.
>The NFL playoffs get started Saturday with a doubleheader starting in Kansas City Youth Royce Freeman Jersey , where the Chiefs will try to beat Tennessee for their first home postseason win in nearly a quarter century. The fourth-seeded Chiefs won four straight games to cap the regular season and capture their second straight AFC West title. The Titans needed a win in their regular-season finale and some help to earn a wild-card spot as the AFC’s fifth seed. The nightcap features the Falcons visiting the Rams at Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. The Bills visit the Jaguars and the Panthers visit the Saints on Sunday, and the outcome of those games will determine whom the winners on Saturday will face next week. The deadline for Kevin Durant to opt into his contract with the Warriors for next season passed Friday night without him doing so, making the two-time reigning NBA Finals MVP a free agent – yet his intention has always been to stay put and re-sign with Golden State.
Much like a year ago, Durant declined to opt in for the second year of his deal, allowing him to work on a more lucrative contract once the signing period begins Saturday night.
Durant only had to inform the Warriors if he planned to opt in Aleksander Barkov Jersey , and the team had long been prepared for this move – merely a procedural decision – knowing his plans for months.
The 29-year-old Durant could sign for as many as four years and about $160 million. He has made clear all along his commitment to the Warriors, especially after winning a pair of championships in his first two seasons with Golden State.
A year ago, Durant declined to opt in for the second year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent. That also was expected as he wanted to do whatever he could to give the franchise financial flexibility to keep the core of the team intact to chase more titles.
Then, the Warriors won another one earlier this month – and Durant hoisted the MVP trophy a second time.
After the season, Warriors general manager Bob Myers said Golden State would reward Durant with ”whatever he wants.”
”Sometimes you don’t negotiate. I’d love to have him for 10 years. Kevin Durant Cheap Stacy McGee Jersey , look what he did for us last year, he did us a great service,” Myers said. ”He’s earned the right to sign whatever deal he wants. I just want him to sign a deal. But want him to be happy and want him to know that we want him as long as he wants to be here. He’s earned that, to kind of lay out the terms. He can do whatever he wants. That shouldn’t be a long negotiation. Our goal, to be honest Marcell Dareus Jersey , is to try to keep the whole thing together, so that’s the pieces of the puzzle we’ve got to try to figure out.”
Durant, recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist award for this past season honoring all his charity efforts, led the Warriors to a finals sweep of LeBron James and the Cavaliers by averaging 28.8 points – he shot 52.6 percent and 40.9 from 3-point range – 10.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.00 blocks.
That’s after last postseason when he averaged 28.5 points Authentic Josh Manson Jersey , 7.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 55.6 percent and scoring more than 30 points in nine of his 15 games on the way to a first career championship in his 10th NBA season.
The bottom line does not tell the story of Michael Fulmer’s last start.
The Detroit Tigers right-hander overpowered the Cincinnati Reds for 5 2/3 innings on June 20 Jamie Benn Jersey , holding them scoreless while striking out nine.
Fulmer then gave up back-to-back homers on what he felt were well-located sliders. Scooter Gennett, who badly missed a Fulmer slider earlier in the at-bat, golfed a two-run shot over the right-field wall. Eugenio Suarez followed with a blast over the left-field wall.
Fulmer wound up with his sixth loss of the season.
He’ll hope for some better luck in a Thursday matinee against the Oakland Athletics.
The Tigers will be trying to break an eight-game losing streak after dropping the first three games of the series while Oakland will attempt to get its first four-game sweep of Detroit since 2001.
“Last start, everything was kind of on cruise control and then Gennett hit a good pitch out,” Fulmer said. “But people don’t see the pitch, they see the results. They look at the linescore and that’s it.
“They don’t see that my fastball velo is up, my sinker’s moving more, my slider has been a lot sharper as of late http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/johnthan-banks-jersey ,” Fulmer continued. “That’s the problem from a player’s standpoint and a spectator’s standpoint. ‘Oh, he gave up two home runs in one inning last start, it wasn’t a very good start.’ Don’t worry about the other five innings where I did really well. Sometimes, people don’t think just to give the hitters credit.”
Fulmer (3-6, 4.17 ERA) limited Minnesota and Cleveland to one run in seven innings in each of his previous two outings. He’s throwing as hard as ever, with his four-seamer and sinker averaging over 97 mph this month.
Other than his changeup being a little faster than he’d like, Fulmer believes he’s in top form.
“I’m not frustrated with the way I pitched or my stuff,” said Fulmer http://www.officialducks.com/authentic-adidas-antoine-vermette-jersey , who is 2-0 with an 0.57 ERA in two career starts against Oakland. “I’m frustrated with the results and that’s the way it’s kind of been for me so far this season. I’m still very positive. I still trust everything, I feel like we’re very close to being dominant for a full game.”
The Tigers could certainly use one of those outings.
Left-hander Sean Manaea (7-6, 3.40 ERA) will oppose Fulmer after having his scheduled start pushed back a day. He has delivered three consecutive quality starts following a rough patch in May. Manaea allowed four or more earned runs in five of his six May starts but he’s held opponents to a combined six runs in his last three outings.
“I was trying to be too perfect and it was causing me to overthink things,” he said. “Now, I’m trying to keep things simple.”
Manaea has walked just one batter in those three starts while collecting 17 strikeouts. He held the Chicago White Sox to one run on five hits in seven innings during his last start. He lost his only career start against Detroit while giving up three runs in six innings.
Oakland’s streak of hitting a homer in 27 consecutive road games, a major league record, ended on Wednesday but it still came away with a 3-0 victory. Jed Lowrie has seven hits in the series, including two homers and two doubles.
Compared to other North American pro sports Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey , the NHL has a strong family connection running through it. Two of the greatest snipers the league has ever seen are father and son鈥擝rett and Bobby Hull. Then there's the Sutter family, with six brothers and their kids occupying all sorts of positions in the league, from active players, to coaches, to managers, and more. There's currently a new crop of young NHL players who are the sons of famous hockey players like Keith Tkachuk, Michael Nylander, Adam Foote Auston Matthews Jersey , and more. Tracing the NHL's family trees can be an involved process that involves a whole lot more coincidences and strange connections that you may not have been aware.
It's hard to say why the NHL has such a tradition of fathers passing the game on to their sons. It may be partially because the sport has a relatively high barrier of entry. It's an expensive game that requires a lot of equipment and training, so having a former-pro as a dad really gives you a leg up. Also, the connections can't hurt. Having a famous hockey dad put in a good word with a coach of manager can go for a long way for a young guy making his way up.
Despite these advantages, though, some guys blow it. On this list, you'll find that some of the greatest hockey players of all time have sons that tried to follow in their dad's footsteps but failed to stick around in the pros. Players have been touted as their father's successors and have failed wildly聽in delivering on that hype. Let's take a look at some of the most disappointing hockey sons of all time.
The NHL may be promoted as a goody two shoes type of league Eric Staal Jersey , but please trust us when we say that professional hockey in North America isn't always on the straight and narrow. There are plenty of troublesome players (and situations, for that matter) who are ready to rumble on and off the ice. Not only that, those players and situations can spark one or more disagreements and we're not just referring to the typical on-ice incidents like, say, line brawls and verbal exchanges. We're talking about the off-ice incidents that have an impact on the players' personal lives that may or may not get into their heads.
No matter what happens to a player following a rather private fiasco with another player, the fiasco itself makes for an excellent entry to be included in an article such as this one in particular. It doesn't matter if you're familiar with the old-school players or not because you got to know a little bit of everything, you know? The 90s may be a long time ago, but it's the 90s, man. The hockey rivalries certainly have already passed Sam Gagner Jersey , but they'll never be forgotten because some NHLers continue to hold grudges towards other NHLers, which can cause folks on both sides聽of the ice to play a fast-paced, heart-stopping crazy type of game for the general public to take in and enjoy with all their hearts.
These are eight NHL stars who still聽don't like each other and seven who are still friends.
Three years after bottoming out, the Buffalo Sabres found a way to achieve a new low.
A 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night assured Buffalo of becoming the NHL’s first team to finish 31st following this season’s addition of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.
”Honestly, no. I don’t think anyone really envisioned this, certainly not myself being on the outside coming in,” said Jason Pominville, the former Sabres captain who rejoined the team last offseason after being acquired in a trade with Minnesota.
”With the group we had, I still don’t believe we should be where we’re at. But we are there. And things got to change.”
First-year coach Phil Housley was defiant when asked if he ever second-guessed what he signed up for upon being hired in June after the Sabres cleaned house last spring.
And yet the Hall of Fame defenseman had to acknowledge how difficult this season has been.
”This is just where we are as a group,” Housley said. ”Let’s be honest, we have a long way to go.”
Having already extended their franchise-worst playoff drought to a seventh year, the Sabres clinched last place for the third time in five years – they were 30th in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Their fate this season was sealed in losing their home finale in a matchup of two of the NHL’s worst teams.
Matt Duchene scored his team-leading 27th goal and the 30th-place Senators upped their total to 67 points, five ahead of the Sabres, who have just two games left.
Max McCormick, Ryan Dzingel and Alexandre Burrows, with an empty-netter, also scored for the Senators. Craig Anderson stopped 32 shots Jake DeBrusk Jersey , and Ottawa improved to 2-8 in its past 10.
”We play for each other, we play for our fans, we play for the crest on the front,” Anderson said of the Senators’ objective to not finish last.
And the Senators won with a roster depleted of numerous regulars, including captain Erik Karlsson, who remained in Ottawa to be his wife after the couple’s first son was stillborn two weeks ago.
The Senators scored three straight times after Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly opened the scoring on a breakaway goal 30 seconds in.
McCormick tied the game 2:26 later by tipping in Mark Borowiecki’s point shot. Duchene scored 3:14 later by blasting in a shot over Chad Johnson’s left shoulder after teammate Ben Harpur broke up Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen’s clearing attempt at the left boards.
Dzingel made it 3-1 at the 3:21 mark of the second period, seconds after a tripping penalty against Buffalo’s Marco Scandella expired. Dzingel collected a loose puck in the right circle and used Sabres defenseman Casey Nelson as a screen to sneak a shot under Johnson’s right arm.
Johnson stopped 30 shots and Kyle Okposo also scored for the Sabres in closing Buffalo’s home record at 11-25-5.
The Sabres’ league-worst 11 home wins matched a franchise low for any year, including the lockout-shortened 48-game 2012-13 season, when Buffalo went 11-10-3. Buffalo also went 11-19-9 during a 78-game season in 1971-72.
The Sabres’ final four home losses came against four of the NHL’s five-worst road teams: Arizona Myles Jack Jersey , which entered the day 27th, Detroit (28th), Ottawa (30th) and Montreal (31st).
”I expected a lot more,” O’Reilly said about Buffalo’s record. ”But you can expect all you want. It comes down to doing it and getting better. And obviously, we got worse.”
NOTES: Senators RW Bobby Ryan did not return after sustaining a lower body injury in the first period. He was hurt when teammate Jean-Gabriel Pageau fell back into him after being checked by Buffalo’s Jack Eichel. … Sabres C Zemgus Girgensons will miss the final three games with an upper body injury. … Senators RW Marian Gaborik missed his seventh consecutive game, and Boucher said the player is visiting a specialist to determine the severity of a nagging back injury. … Corey Syvret made his debut as an NHL referee. Syvret played for OHL London in 2006 when he lost a fight, decisively, to current Sabres forward Jordan Nolan.
Senators: Continue season-closing three-game trip Friday night at Pittsburgh.
Sabres: Open season-closing two-game trip Friday night at Tampa Bay.
James Harden had another huge third quarter to propel the Houston Rockets to their latest win Chris Jones Jersey , and coach Mike D’Antoni wants to know what’s behind those scoring bursts.
”When you do talk to him about it, would you let me know, because I’m dying in the first half. My health is an issue,” D’Antoni said with a laugh.
Clint Capela had 26 points and 15 rebounds, Harden added 24 points and the Rockets pulled away in the third quarter to get another lopsided win and eliminate the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 122-104 victory in Game 5 of the first-round series Wednesday night.
The top-seeded Rockets are headed to the second round for the second year in a row after taking care of the eighth-seeded Timberwolves. Minnesota was in the postseason for the first time since 2004.
Houston will await the winner of the Utah-Oklahoma City series, which the Jazz lead 3-2 after the Thunder rallied from a big deficit Wednesday night to avoid elimination.
After scoring 22 points in Houston’s 50-point third quarter in a Game 4 blowout Monday night, Harden poured in half of Houston’s 30 points in the third quarter Wednesday night to put the Rockets up for good. His 15 third-quarter points matched Minnesota’s output in the frame, and he finished with 12 assists.
”I knew that Minnesota wasn’t going to just go away,” he said. ”We had to do the right things to put them away.”
Karl-Anthony Towns led the Timberwolves with 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Jamal Crawford added 20 points off the bench.
”It’s a major jump from where we were two years ago Youth Alejandro Villanueva Jersey ,” coach Tom Thibodeau said. ”We have to take all the things we learned this past season and make a commitment to continue to improve.”
Paul and Harden both raved about the work of Capela, who throughout the series has outshined Towns, an All-Star this season and the top overall pick in 2015.
”He opens up everything for us because he’s such a threat when he rolls to the rim,” Paul said.
Towns believes the experience of his first trip to the postseason will help him moving forward.
”We hadn’t been there in like 14 years so it was experience that needed to be garnered and we wanted to take that next step,” he said. ”We came up short tonight but we’re very confident in ourselves leading up to next year.”
Andrew Wiggins scored the last four points of the third quarter to cut the lead to 85-74 entering the fourth quarter. The Rockets used a 7-2 spurt, highlighted by a 3 from Ryan Anderson, to start the fourth and make it 92-76 with 9 1/2 minutes left.
A basket by Derrick Rose got Minnesota within 14 later in the fourth when Houston went on a 10-4 run to push the lead to 108-88 with less than five minutes to go.
The Wolves got consecutive 3s by Jamal Crawford and Wiggins to cut the lead after that, but the Rockets scored the next five points to end that run and cruise to the victory.
The Rockets opened the second half with a 10-2 run to erase a halftime deficit and take a 65-61 lead with about nine minutes left in the third. Paul, who finished with 12 points and nine assists, had four points in that stretch and Harden and P.J. Tucker added 3-pointers.
Minnesota scored the next five points to go back on top Gale Sayers Jersey , but Harden scored five quick points after that to leave the Rockets ahead 70-66. Harden, who had just five points at halftime, hit a 3 before throwing down a one-handed dunk over Taj Gibson that prompted Minnesota Thibodeau to call a timeout.
The timeout didn’t do anything to slow Harden and the Rockets, and he added another 3 on Houston’s first possession after the timeout.
Towns added a basket after that before Houston scored the next eight points to extend the lead to 81-68 with 2 1/2 minutes left in the quarter.
Things got a little testy after that when Crawford pushed Paul to the court and stood over him jawing. Paul got to his feet and got in his face, but the two were quickly separated and Crawford was given an offensive foul and a technical.
Timberwolves: Tyus Jones returned after sitting out in Game 4 with a sore knee. … Jimmy Butler had eight points before sitting out the fourth because of a sore knee and Wiggins finished with 14. … Jeff Teague scored 17 and had seven assists.
Rockets: D’Antoni said that Luc Mbah a Moute, who missed the entire first round after dislocating his right shoulder, is getting better and will be re-evaluated next week. … Eric Gordon scored 19 points. … Tucker finished with a playoff career-high 15 points.
The Rockets made a series-high 18 3-pointers on Wednesday night. They’ve made at least 15 3-pointers in their last four games, which is tied with Cleveland in 2016 for the longest streak in NBA playoff history. Last season Houston made 15 or more 3-pointers in just three of their 11 playoff games.
The Rockets will host the first two games of the Western Conference semifinals against the winner of the Jazz-Thunder series.
The Chicago Bears are set to sign Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton, giving quarterback Mitchell Trubisky some playmaking targets.
Robinson told ESPN he plans to sign a three-year, $42 million contract Authentic Teuvo Teravainen Jersey , while two people familiar with the situation told The Associated Press Tuesday that Burton is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles after agreeing to a $32 million, four-year deal.
Chicago also agreed to a deal with Atlanta Falcons receiver Taylor Gabriel, and Miami Dolphins kicker Cody Parkey also plans to sign with the Bears, people familiar with their situations said.
The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deals won't be announced until the league year begins Wednesday.
The Bears also extended one-year tenders to receivers Cameron Meredith and Joshua Bellamy along with cornerback Bryce Callahan, giving them the right to match any offers they receive in free agency.
A 2015 Pro Bowl selection, Robinson was impressed by new Bears coach Matt Nagy and told ESPN, "I like what he did" as offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs. Robinson also tweeted "What's good Chicago!!!?" with a picture of himself in a Bulls game jersey on Tuesday.
The Bears were looking to upgrade their struggling receiving corps and give Trubisky more dependable targets.
The versatile Burton gets a chance to be the No. 1 tight end on the Bears after catching 23 passes for 248 yards and five TDs in Philadelphia's championship season. He also threw a touchdown pass to quarterback Nick Foles in the Eagles' Super Bowl victory over New England.
Robinson had a strong training camp last year and looked like he would be an integral part of the offense. But he tore the ACL in his left knee on Jacksonville's third play of the season and had surgery the following week. The Jaguars went on to win the AFC South and advance to the conference title game.
Robinson has missed 21 games in four seasons, though Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said at the NFL scouting combine he is "right on schedule" in his recovery from the torn ACL.
A second-round draft pick from Penn State, Robinson has 202 catches for 2,848 yards and 22 touchdowns in 43 games. He had 80 receptions for 1 Troy Aikman Jersey ,400 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015, establishing himself as one of the best receivers in franchise history. His production dropped in 2016, with 73 receptions for 883 yards and six scores.
But at 24, he's young and fills a big need for the rebuilding Bears. Chicago's leading receiver last year was Kendall Wright with 59 receptions for 614 yards.
Gabriel had 33 catches for 378 yards and a touchdown last season. He has 132 receptions for 1,819 yards and eight touchdowns in four seasons with Atlanta and Cleveland.
The Bears are banking on Trubisky's development to help them end a string of losing seasons. General manager Ryan Pace staked his reputation to the quarterback by trading up a spot with San Francisco last year to draft him with the No. 2 overall pick.
Parkey made 21 of 23 field goals in his lone season with Miami. He worked with new Bears special teams coordinator Chris Tabor as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2016, after spending his first two years with the Eagles.
The Bears waived Connor Barth and signed Cairo Santos in November. Santos then suffered a season-ending groin injury, and Mike Nugent finished the season as Chicago's kicker.
The Bears fired coach John Fox after going 5-11 and finishing last in the NFC North for the fourth straight year. The Bears have missed the playoffs 10 of the past 11 seasons and have not finished with a winning record since 2012.
