Browns starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor will undergo more tests on a bruised left hand the team hopes isn't seriously injured.
Taylor got hurt in the first quarter Thursday night when he fell out of bounds after throwing an incomplete pass. He left the game for two series to be examined but returned to play in Cleveland's 5-0 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Following the game Tobias Rieder Jersey , coach Hue Jackson said X-rays taken on Taylor's hand were negative. However, Taylor will have more medical tests Friday.
"Anytime your quarterback gets nicked like that, you are always concerned, but I think the fact that he was able to go back into the game was a good sign," Jackson said. "I know we will make sure that we take care of it this week, whatever that is, and get him back to where he needs to be. I feel comfortable and confident that he is going to be OK, and that will happen."
Taylor Tyler Johnson Jersey , who is in his first season with the Browns, remained in the locker room during the second half for treatment. He left FirstEnergy Stadium without speaking to reporters.
Jackson said Taylor was cleared by the team's medical staff before returning to the game.
"We would not have put him back out there if he was not," Jackson said. "We will check everything tonight and see where he is, but hopefully, everything will be OK."
The Browns acquired the 29-year-old Taylor in a trade with Buffalo in March and intend to have him start while No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield develops. But that plan obviously would change if there's an injury.
Taylor has impressed the Browns on and off the field since he arrived. He's won over his teammates with an impeccable work ethic and established himself as a team leader. Last season, Taylor helped the Bills end a 17-year playoff drought.
Against the Eagles, Taylor finished 11 of 16 for 65 yards in five series before giving way to Mayfield. The Heisman Trophy winner went 8 of 12 for 76 yards.
Jackson said he doesn't know yet if either of the quarterbacks will play in next week's exhibition finale against Detroit.
The Browns were facing a fourth-and-goal at the 1 when Taylor got hurt. He rolled left and fired the pass while falling backward, and then landed on his left side without taking any contact. His arm was pinned under his body when he hit the ground Joel Eriksson Ek Jersey , and as teammates waved for medical help, Taylor got up holding his left wrist and immediately ran to the sideline.
The sight of Taylor jogging off sent a shiver through fans at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns have been snakebitten at the quarterback position for years. Taylor was set to be the 29th different starter for the franchise since 1999.
Mayfield was impressed by Taylor's toughness in going back into the game.
"That is who he is," Mayfield said. "He is a competitor. He wants to be out there. He is the same way that I am in regards to that. He wants to be out there and playing with his guys."
Mayfield was checked for a concussion in the second half after the independent neurologist requested it.
"I did all of the stuff on the sideline," Mayfield said. "They got a call from upstairs to review it based on the video. That is just how it works."
As he prepares to enter his third season with the New Orleans Saints, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins wants to become a leadership figure on defense.
According to Herbie Teope of NFL.com, the 2016 first-round pick feels he’s equipped to take another step forward on a defense that improved significantly last season.
“Now, it’s all about improving, whether it’s just finishing plays Antti Niemi Jersey ,” Rankins said. “I had a lot of pressures, a lot of quarterback hits, but now it’s time to turn those into sacks. A lot of tackles around the line of scrimmage, but now it’s time to turn those into (tackles for loss). It’s time to be a leader for this defense.”
Rankins became a full-time starter for the Saints in his second season after being a rotational player in 2016. The No. 12 overall pick had four sacks as a rookie when he was a rotational piece after beginning the year on injured reserve, but just two sacks last season as a full-time player. He finished his 2017 season with 26 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.
“I think what I do speaks for itself,” Rankins said. “I think I’m versatile. I can rush the passer Connor Brown Jersey , I can stop the run, I can do whatever the defense needs me to do. I’ll always carry that with me in and out of every season, and my mindset won’t change.”

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed defenseman Colin Miller to a four-year contract.
The deal announced Saturday runs through the 2021-22 season and pays an average salary of $3.87 million.
The 25-year-old Miller led all defensemen on the Golden Knights with a career-high 41 points (10 goals Youth Jamie McGinn Jersey , 31 assists). He had five goals and 17 points on the power play during the regular season and added three goals and four assists during the team’s stunning run to the Stanley Cup Final in its first year in the NHL.
Miller was selected by the Golden Knights during the 2017 expansion draft. He has 19 goals, 51 assists and 147 penalty minutes in 185 career games over three seasons with Vegas and the Boston Bruins.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby can admit it now: The Pittsburgh Penguins were tired last season, a natural byproduct of becoming the first franchise in two decades to win consecutive Stanley Cups.
And though the Penguins came as close as any team in the last 35 years to capture three straight titles — they recovered from a blah start to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals before falling to Washington — that special gear they relied on so heavily during their run of dominance never materialized.
“Just for whatever reason, shorter summer, mentally not having that desperation level, as a group we were lacking that,” Crosby said.
Crosby isn’t making excuses so much as stating a simple fact. The Penguins played 213 regular season and playoff games from October 2015 to June 2017. A heavy workload to be sure but also a small price to pay to have your name written on hockey’s most prized possession.
While Crosby Matt Calvert Jersey , Evgeni Malkin and company spent most of last fall downplaying the idea they might be emotionally and physically drained, at times they certainly played like it. The proof came on the defensive end, where they gave up the most goals (250) of any playoff team.
Though they eventually got it going behind Malkin — who finished fourth in the league with 98 points — they also understand sleepwalking for three months cost them a legit shot at home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs and forced them to expend more energy than they anticipated just keep pace in the hyper-competitive Metropolitan Division.
That can’t happen this time around if they want to throw another downtown parade in June.
“The start is important,” Crosby said. “You want to start out the right way, especially with how tight teams are. You can’t be playing catch-up.”
A less taxing schedule should help. The Penguins played a league-high 19 sets of back-to-back games in 2017-18. That number drops to 11 this season. For a group whose core of Malkin, Crosby, Phil Kessel and Kris Letang are all in their 30s Jason Pominville Jersey Kids , that’s no small comfort.
Oh, and there’s the lingering taste of watching the Capitals celebrate a rare playoff triumph in Pittsburgh.
“Of course I’m upset,” Malkin said. “I feel we beat Washington, we have chance to win. … I never watch (after we lose). I like go to Miami, spend time with my family, my kids. It doesn’t matter, last year or five years ago. I never watch (after we lose). It’s not fun to watch.”
Pittsburgh made just one splashy move in free agency when it lavished a five-year Christopher Tanev Jersey , $16.25 million contract on defenseman Jack Johnson. He called the move a “perfect fit,” one that unites him with longtime friend Crosby. Still, the length of the deal and Johnson’s forgettable finish in Columbus — he requested a trade in the middle of last season and was a healthy scratch during the playoffs — raised eyebrows. The Penguins consider Johnson a versatile puck mover who could thrive in a system where he won’t be required to do much more than play responsibly and get out of the way.
“It’s always great to come into a team that has high expectations,” Johnson said. “That’s what you want. That’s what any athlete wants coming into a team. There’s a lot of established guys that have been leaders on this team for a long time. I just wanted to come in and be myself and be part of the group and fit in with the guys and help the team win.”
‘DAD’ IS HOME
Matt Cullen is still going. The veteran center — who turns 42 in November — returns to Pittsburgh after one season in his native Minnesota. Cullen played a vital role both on the ice as a penalty killer and off the ice as a “glue” guy as the Penguins won back-to-back Cups. Cullen still looked plenty spry during his 21st NHL training camp, and he will give the fourth line a boost.
Matt Murray’s first full season as Pittsburgh’s firmly entrenched No. 1 goalie did not go to plan. After twice backstopping the team to the Cup before his 24th birthday, Murray struggled to stay healthy and play with consistency. He’s hoping an extra month to prepare for his third NHL season will help and coach Mike Sullivan is quick to point out Murray didn’t exactly receive a serious boost from the play in front of him.
As long as the Penguins have Crosby, Malkin and Kessel in the fold Noah Hanifin Jersey , they’ll be among the most talented offensive teams in the league. The goal this season is to spread the wealth a little bit more. Pittsburgh relied almost exclusively on its top power play and the combination of Crosby and Jake Guentzel late in the season and into the playoffs. A full training camp to integrate Derrick Brassard — who played with an injury most of last spring after being acquired at the trade deadline — should help. If Brassard and Patric Hornqvist can develop some chemistry, the third line could take some of the pressure off the star-laden top two groups.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles was picked without being on the field.
Bortles had his wallet stolen from his pickup truck Wednesday night in a bizarre robbery at teammate Brandon Linder’s home.
Joseph Arthur Horton James Neal Jersey , 18, was charged with auto theft, auto burglary and trespassing, according to Duval County jail records.
Jaguars guard Chris Reed told police he was walking up Linder’s driveway for a gathering when he saw someone inside Bortles’ truck, according to the arrest report. Reed said he didn’t think anything of it and went inside. Surveillance video from Linder’s home showed someone getting inside Bortles’ truck and removing the quarterback’s wallet that was later found in the driveway. Bortles told police nothing appeared to have been taken.
Surveillance video showed Horton sitting behind the wheel of the truck, starting it and moving it back and forth. But since there were numerous cars in the driveway, the truck could not be driven away. Horton got out and looked around before walking into the house.
A few minutes later Antti Niemi Jersey , Linder asked him who he was, the report said. The man answered ”Joe” and walked upstairs. Due to the large number of people in the house, Linder said he didn’t think anything was suspicious. A short time later, Linder found Horton upstairs, and when no one knew who he was, he called police.
Bortles, Linder and Reed stayed with Horton until officers arrived Bo Horvat Jersey , the report said.
The Miami Dolphins are ready to add two receivers after trading Jarvis Landry, and the likely newcomers include one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets.
Former New England Patriots receiver Danny Amendola and ex-Kansas City Chiefs wideout Albert Wilson are discussing contract offers and are likely to sign with the Dolphins when the NFL’s new year begins Wednesday, a person familiar with the negotiations said Tuesday. The person confirmed the talks to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because there was no final agreement.
Wilson’s contract would be a $24 million, three-year deal, a second person said.
Miami earlier agreed to trade Landry, a three-time Pro Bowl receiver, to the Cleveland Browns for two draft picks.
On the eve of free agency John Gibson Jersey , the Dolphins released veteran linebacker Lawrence Timmons as expected. Reserve safety Walt Aikens discussed re-signing with Miami and is likely to reach a deal, a person familiar with the negotiations said.
Amendola, 32, is a nine-year NFL veteran with 426 career receptions and 19 touchdowns, and since 2013 he has played in 13 postseason games with Brady and New England. Last year, Amendola caught 61 passes for 659 yards.
Wilson is from Port St. Lucie, Florida. In four seasons with the Chiefs he caught 124 passes for 1 Keith Yandle Jersey ,544 yards, including 42 receptions for 554 yards last year.
Timmons’ departure clears $5.5 million in cap space for Miami. He went AWOL on the eve of last year’s opener, was briefly suspended and played poorly when he returned.
Aikens has been with the Dolphins since his rookie season in 2014 and has become a key contributor on special teams.
When the Bears traded for defensive end Khalil Mack Dmitry Kulikov Jersey , it was only a matter of time that they signed him to the contract extension that the Raiders refused to give him this offseason.
It didn’t take long to get that deal done.聽A source with knowledge of the deal tells PFT聽that Mack has agreed to a six-year, $141 million extension. The deal reportedly includes聽$90 million in guaranteed money and $60 fully guaranteed million at signing.
Those numbers mean that Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald‘s run as the highest-paid defensive player in the league ended after one day. Donald signed a six-year, $135 million deal with the Rams to end his holdout.
Now all that remains is for Mack to get on the field and begin working with the Bears. Once he does, we’ll find out if the week to come will be enough time for Mack to join his new teammates on the field against the Packers on the first Sunday night of the regular season.
Given the price tag to get him and the price tag to sign him, it’s a good bet that the Bears will do anything they can to make that happen.
Rookie quarterback Josh Allen moved one step closer to becoming the Buffalo Bills' starter.
Coach Sean McDermott is providing the strong-armed, first-round draft pick his opportunity to win the job by naming him the starter in Buffalo's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
The team announced the decision on its Twitter account Monday evening after Allen practiced with the first-string offense earlier in the day.
The Bills provided no other details regarding the decision Tyler Ennis Jersey , and McDermott isn't scheduled to address reporters until Friday. Allen and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll are currently scheduled to speak to the media when the team returns to practice Wednesday.
Allen's chance comes after he showed continued improvement working with the second- and third-stringers in Buffalo's first two preseason games.
He went 9 of 19 for 116 yards and a touchdown in overseeing the third-string offense in a preseason-opening 28-23 loss to Carolina two weeks ago.
On Friday, he went 9 of 13 for 60 yards and a touchdown in leading the second-string offense on scoring drives 鈥?including two field goals 鈥?on each of his three series in a 19-17 win at Cleveland.
Allen, on Friday, wasn't prepared to say whether he's made a case to earn a shot at starting.
"That's not up to me. That's completely up to the coaches," he said. "As of now, I'm looking to improve. I know there's a lot of things to improve on and I'll continue to do that."
At 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds Authentic Mitchell Marner Jersey , Allen represents the future after Buffalo traded up five spots to select him with the No. 7 pick to make him the third quarterback taken in the draft at that point.
The 22-year-old, who grew up in Central California, became the first quarterback Buffalo has ever chosen among the top-10 picks, and is being counted upon to fill a job that's been mostly unsettled since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly retired after the 1996 season.
The question remained how much time Allen would require to polish his performance after he was knocked for being erratic at times during his three college seasons at Wyoming.
McDermott took what he's called a calculated approach in gradually developing Allen during an offseason-long quarterback competition rounded out by returning backup Nathan Peterman and offseason veteran free-agent addition AJ McCarron.
McCarron's status is uncertain after he hurt his right throwing shoulder in the first quarter against Cleveland.
McCarron missed the past two practices, though he was spotted on Monday preparing to ride a stationary bike at the Bills facility on Monday.
In speaking before practice, McDermott provided no indication he had made a decision to start Allen.
He merely said the quarterback rotation would continue without McCarron Authentic Derek Forbort Jersey Kids , and that it was Allen's turn to practice with the starters.
Allen has stuck by McDermott's cautious approach.
"You just got to trust the process. Coach always preaches that," Allen said last week.
"I'm just trying to learn, trying to get better every day," he added. "I'm trying to become the best quarterback that I can be. It's going to take time."
Allen's timeline sped up Friday in replacing McCarron, who was sacked once and hit several more times in failing to generate a first down during his four series with the starters.
On his first possession, Allen capped a 15-play Patrick Marleau Jersey , 80-yard drive by avoiding pressure and stepping up in the pocket to hit Rod Streater for a 2-yard touchdown on third down.
McCarron was considered the initial front-runner for the job. He is the most experienced quarterback on the roster after spending his first four NFL seasons as Andy Dalton's backup in Cincinnati before signing with the Bills in free agency in March.
Peterman has put up the best numbers of the three this preseason. He's completed 17 of 20 attempts for 232 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception.

The annual NFLPA “Rookie Premiere” happens this weekend, with select draft picks making the trek to L.A. for the event. The requirements of the exercise triggered a social-media skirmish that resulted in ESPN’s Darren Rovell once again being stuffed in a locker.
Said Rovell on Twitter: “The NFLPA told at least one rookie that if he turned down today鈥檚 Rookie Premiere, where they take photos in their new team gear, they would not be let into their practice facility to work out.”
Said NFLPA spokesman George Atallah in response, also on Twitter: “NFLPA’s Rookie Premiere is more than a photo in the new team gear. You either don’t know that (which is hard to believe since you’re so smart) or you’re just being obtuse. 2. The CBA has dictated this rule since our union has had Rookie Premiere.”
Teams are required to allow the players to attend the Rookie Premiere if they want, and it makes sense that the players can’t choose both to not attend and to stay behind and work out at the team facility. Such a “voluntary” act would be every bit as “voluntary” as the “voluntary” offseason workouts.
And regardless of what happens, the Rookie Premiere is indeed baked into the CBA. For a sport that makes it hard for players to market themselves individually, there’s nothing wrong with taking a weekend to put on their new uniforms and pose for photos that will end up on trading cards and elsewhere.

The NFL’s overhaul of the kickoff Authentic Josh Manson Jersey , aimed either at saving it or setting the stage for its inevitable demise, includes a tweak that previously hasn’t gotten much/any emphasis: Players on the kicking team no longer will be permitted to voluntarily go out of bounds to avoid being blocked.
The penalty applies when the player steps on or beyond the boundary without being contacted Womens Marian Hossa Jersey , and it results in a five-yard penalty.
This tweak represents another example of the league’s effort to minimize high-speed collisions. If players can’t run out of bounds to avoid being blocked, they become less likely to gain a full head of steam before striking a player on the receiving team. The stated goal is to reduce concussions; the unspoken objective is to avoid catastrophic neck injuries that occur when players running directly at each other dip their helmets to brace for impact.
Although this twist to the rules will contribute to the effort to keep players from hitting each other while moving at top speed http://www.officialsabres.com/authentic-adidas-jack-eichel-jersey , it also will tend to set the stage for more returns, making it easier to ensure that would-be tacklers are blocked and not running free toward the player who is preparing to field the kickoff. More returns could lead to more concussions Auston Matthews Jersey , which could lead to the elimination of the kickoff.
The San Francisco 49ers have claimed cornerback C.J. Goodwin off waivers from the New York Giants and waived receiver DeAndre Carter.
The 49ers also signed undrafted rookie free agent defensive lineman Blaine Woodson to a three-year deal Tuesday after he took part in this month’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Goodwin originally signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014 and spent most of his first two seasons on the practice squad.
He played 26 games over two seasons with Atlanta with 12 tackles and two passes defensed. He also played two games late last season with Arizona and was claimed off waivers by the Giants on May 1.
Woodson had 21 1/2 tackles for loss in five seasons at Delaware.
Carter spent last season on San Francisco’s practice squad.

Chargers rookie safety Derwin James was robbed at gunpoint last month Authentic Louis Domingue Jersey , and his Rolex watch was one of the items stolen. Now a man has been arrested as a suspect in the robbery after trying to pawn that watch.
The watch was worth $60,000, and police were alerted when a man tried to pawn it. The pawn shop provided security footage to the police, and James confirmed that the man trying to pawn the watch was the man who robbed him.
TMZ reports that police have arrested 28-year-old Kevin Mitchell as one of the robbers. Two men were involved in the robbery, and James suspects two women he had talked to earlier in the evening as having alerted the men about his expensive jewelry Colton Sissons Jersey , but no one else has been arrested.
Talking to reporters about the incident months later, James described it as a harrowing ordeal.
鈥淚 wouldn鈥檛 wish that upon anybody,鈥?James said. 鈥淚t happened. It was just one of those things that you never expect to happen to you, but it happened, and I鈥檓 just happy to be out here playing football.鈥?/p>
James was not physically harmed in the robbery.
Jimmy Garoppolo was outstanding in five games as the 49ers’ starting quarterback last season Sven Baertschi Jersey , but he has struggled on the practice field this week.
Garoppolo completed just 8 of 20 passes at one minicamp practice, according to the Press Democrat, and head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged the offense didn’t look good.
鈥淚f I was just the offensive coordinator, I would have been very upset. Fortunately, I鈥檓 the head coach Vladimir Sobotka Jersey , so I was happy with the defense. I thought the offense, we came out just sluggish. We couldn鈥檛 get the cadence right and we started practice that way. Guys can see how that trickles down and kind of ruins an entire practice,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan put a positive spin on Garoppolo’s struggles.
鈥淚 like to see Jimmy make mistakes,” he said. “I like seeing him come in and work on it. I like seeing him correct what he messed up two days ago. He felt the mistake. He understood why it was wrong and then he wants to correct it himself. I want him to understand it. Sometimes when things don鈥檛 work out, you learn. You鈥檝e got to know the whys and that鈥檚 what allows you to have continued success over time.鈥?/p>
A few bad practices in June will not matter much when the games start in September. But the 49ers would surely prefer to see their highly paid franchise quarterback look sharp.

No Colton Sissons Jersey , the Patriots didn’t have a deal in place for tight end Rob Gronkowski that was kiboshed by owner Robert Kraft after quarterback Tom Brady threatened to retire. Yes, they were calling teams about a potential trade as recently as three days before the draft.
So who were they calling? Albert Breer of SI.com recently said on FS1 that the Patriots talked not to the entire league, but to “some teams they trust.”
“Detroit, Tennessee, Houston, San Francisco,” Breer said, via NESN.com.
There were more than that, per a league source. It’s unclear how many more there were. It is clear that a deal was never close enough to result in Gronkowski being informed about the possibility — and that would have been a key ingredient, given that Gronkowski didn’t even commit to playing in 2018 until two days before the draft.
Frank Reich might not have been the Indianapolis Colts' first choice as head coach.
Turns out, he might be the better fit anyway.
Just three days into training camp, the 56-year-old former quarterback has injected energy Martin Frk Jersey , enthusiasm and excitement into a team desperately needing to change directions after three straight seasons of missing the playoffs.
"I think he brings a really neat perspective," Andrew Luck said this week. "He's certainly had an amazing career as a player and has done an amazing job as a coach. I've really enjoyed talking to him, learning from him, talking with him and figuring out what the best course of action is in many different arenas."
The new tandem is just getting started.
Throughout the first two public workouts in suburban Indianapolis, Luck and Reich have been conversing regularly as Luck learns his fourth offense in seven pro seasons.
But Reich does more than just talk.
He's innovative, passionate and personable, and players seem to respect the unique journey Reich took to his first head coaching gig.
After graduating from Maryland, he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills and joined a cast of future Hall of Famers while playing for the only team to appear in four straight Super Bowls.
His coaching career began when another Hall of Famer, Tony Dungy, hired Reich as an intern with the Colts in 2006. Peyton Manning earned his first championship ring that season, though Reich did not receive one.
In 2009, Reich was promoted to quarterbacks coach as Manning captured his fourth MVP Award John Tavares Jersey , led the Colts to a 14-0 start and another AFC title.
Then after stints in Arizona and San Diego where he worked directly with Larry Fitzgerald and Philip Rivers, Reich was named the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator in 2016 and finally picked up the elusive ring when Nick Foles beat New England in February.
Even before he replaced injured Bills quarterback Jim Kelly in the 1992 playoffs and overcame a 32-point deficit to complete the largest comeback in NFL history, Reich threw three second-half TD passes in relief of Stan Gelbaugh and led the Terrapins back from a 31-poinnt deficit to beat highly-ranked Miami in 1984. At the time, it was the largest comeback in major college football history and still ranks No. 3.
"The backup role has suited me well in my career," Reich joked at his introductory news conference in February.
The Colts are counting on him to do it again, this time in the family tradition.
His father was a football coach, his mother coached sports and his brother, Joe, is entering his 18th season as head coach at Division II Wingate University in North Carolina.
And Reich may need all of his expertise to turn things around in Indy.
He inherits a young roster that has more questions than answers, a team the outside world believes will be among the worst in the league and one that was spurned by its top coaching choice, New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, shortly after the Patriots season-ending loss.
So instead of McDaniels Kevin Shattenkirk Jersey , general manager Chris Ballard brought in a reigning champion who understood the organization, who helped Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz put himself in the MVP conversation in just his second NFL season and who refused to take a single interview until Philadelphia's season was over.
He didn't care what the critics said then about the Colts, and he doesn't care now.
"I see and hear the chatter, but we don't focus too much on that," he said, referring to one projection of a two-win season. "That is, I guess, a little bulletin board material, but for the most part, it's about believing in one another. I've seen what we've done. I've seen the kind of players we have. I just have a lot of confidence in who we have here."
The players like what they have in this coach, too.
Reich, for instance Authentic David Perron Jersey , remembers what it's like to play the game and can provide perspective and stories about his own NFL experiences including a surgical procedure he had on his shoulder following his retirement in 1998 that was similar to what Luck endured in January 2017.
"He certainly is a sounding board for all of us quarterbacks," Luck said. "I think he's also a great teacher. The best coaches have always been the best teachers. He does a fantastic job of that."
Reich's frank, succinct assessments have been a big hit, too.
He's made no secret of his personal expectations: The Colts must work hard, be prepared, play with discipline and finish games. He also encourages players to be themselves, a combination that led free agent tight end Eric Ebron to Indianapolis and could bring more help to Indy in the future.
"Frank is just Frank, he always just keeps it real," Ebron said. "That's what I like about him."

Tavon Austin is restructuring his contract to remain with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams worked out a deal with Austin on Thursday to keep the high-priced veteran receiver on their roster.
Austin got a four-year Patrick Roy Jersey , $42 million deal with Los Angeles before the 2016 season, and he reached career highs with 58 catches for 509 yards. But after Austin caught just 13 passes for the Rams last season, the team explored a trade or a buyout.
Coach Sean McVay frequently used the speedy former No. 8 overall pick as a ball-carrier instead of a receiver for the NFC West champions. Austin rushed 59 times for 270 yards last season.
Austin has spent five seasons with the Rams.
The Packers gave themselves some cover yesterday Authentic Daniel Sedin Jersey , when they signed a functional starting-caliber right tackle.
Which makes it reasonable to wonder whether they’re convinced their incumbent right tackle is going to be ready to start the season.
Via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press Gazette, yesterday’s signing of former Panthers-Titans-Cowboys lineman Byron Bell could be a sign of some concern about Bulaga’s timeline.
The veteran tackle tore his ACL in November, and if they don’t think he’s going to be ready for the start of the regular season Duncan Keith Jersey , the physically unable to perform list could be a possibility.
Bulaga’s roster spot was considered tenuous at varying points in the offseason, after he refused a pay cut. But the Packers insisted that he was part of the plan.
They also have Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy and Adam Pankey as options Luke Schenn Jersey Kids , but bringing in a guy with Bell’s experience (74 starts), could suggest some concern about Bulaga’s status.聽Spriggs (dislocated left kneecap) and Murphy (foot surgery) are coming back from significant injuries of their own, though they worked at OTAs.
The Packers created the roster spot for Bell by聽releasing undrafted rookie lineman Jacob Alsadek.

When it comes to the playoffs Braden Holtby Jersey , the Carolina Panthers have been there, done that.
The Panthers are unquestionably the most battle-tested team in the NFC playoffs with a roster consisting of players who have participated in 187 career postseason games. That’s quite a few more than the Atlanta Falcons (143), and more than double that of Carolina’s first-round opponent, the New Orleans Saints (90).
Philadelphia players have played in 74 playoff games and Minnesota’s 69, while the Los Angeles Rams are the least experienced NFC playoff team with 21.
Whether or not that experience pays off for the Panthers (11-5) remains to be seen. Carolina enters Sunday’s game at New Orleans having lost both previous regular season matchups to the Saints (11-5) by a combined 31 points.
But 37-year-old defensive end Julius Peppers believes Carolina’s experience can only help.
”We’ve had guys who have been there before, so I feel like we should be ready and more prepared,” Peppers said. ”I feel like guys have been around and know how to approach this thing. I think it will help us keep our poise a little bit too.”
The Panthers learned that the hard way in 2013.
They played host to the San Francisco 49ers in a divisional playoff game, but several players lost their cool – and their focus – on different occasions when calls didn’t go their way. It turned out to be a valuable lesson, as the Panthers lost the game.
”Guys were a little too excited, too rambunctious and got away from ourselves early in the game and we weren’t able to bounce back from that,” Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly said.
Kuechly and the Panthers did a better job of managing that emotion in 2015 Authentic David Desharnais Jersey , although there were a few hiccups in the Super Bowl loss to Denver.
”I think guys understand that emotions are going to run high in a playoff game and you have to understand that the most important thing is to play the game and not get wrapped up in the emotion of the game and get too excited and start making dumb plays,” Kuechly said.
Experience, he said, helps that.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said last week’s 22-10 loss felt a little like the 2013 playoff defeat to the 49ers. The Panthers had three key calls go against them in the first half against the Falcons and never recovered. They not only wound up losing the game, but a chance to capture the NFC South division title and host a playoff game.
”One of the things I said to the guys: `We got a little caught up in not being happy about some of the calls that weren’t made.’ I think we got a little distracted by that,” Rivera said. ”It was a little bit of a lesson (for younger players) and a little bit of refresher (for veterans), a reminder that, `This is playoff time. You can’t lose your focus. We’ve got to keep it on the game.”’
While the Panthers have never won a Super Bowl, this is their fourth trip to the playoffs in the last five seasons.
Panthers tight end Greg Olsen said playoff experience does matter, not only on game day but also in the preparation leading up to it.
”If you haven’t played in one, it’s really hard to anticipate it Authentic Kyle Quincey Jersey Kids ,” Olsen said. ”That level of intensity keeps going up. It’s like when you first play in the preseason in the NFL and then all of sudden the regular season opener comes and it’s like, well, this is a little different. It’s kind of a similar transition to the playoffs. Every play, every move, every inch is so important. The margin for error is very small.”
Said Saints coach Sean Payton: ”I think playing in big games matter. The experience of doing that, a lot of these younger players kind of played in this BCS series, it is that same type of environment. … I think it can be a factor and yet I think the preparation and the attention to detail, those type of things are most significant.”
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is 3-3 in playoffs games.
He said just as much as experience, the playoffs after about having ”smart players, players that a conscientious of the situation at hand” is equally as important.
The Panthers certainly have that in players like Peppers, Kuechly Vincent Trocheck Jersey , Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson and Mike Adams on defense, as well as Newton, Olsen, Ryan Kalil and Jonathan on offense.
NOTES: Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart (back stiffness) and guard Trai Turner practiced for the second straight day, although Turner remains in the concussion protocol. But starting left tackle Matt Kalil did not practice because of an illness.

Browns receiver Jarvis Landry sounds happy to be out of Miami, and to be catching passes from a quarterback other than Ryan Tannehill.
Landry, who previously said the Browns’ quarterback situation is a lot better than what he had with the Dolphins, told NFL Network today that he hasn’t spoken with Tannehill since leaving Miami for Cleveland, and he didn’t sound too broken up not to hear from him.
“I have not heard from Ryan Tannehill,” Landry said. “I’m not surprised. We didn’t really have a good relationship anyway Jonathan Marchessault Jersey , so I’m not surprised.”
Landry didn’t sound particularly interested in discussing Tannehill, and did sound optimistic about playing in a situation that he thinks is better.
“I wasn’t trying to look back in the rearview mirror,” Landry said. “I’m focused on here and where we’re taking it here. I wasn’t trying to take a shot at him. I understand how hard every guy in the NFL works, especially at the position, especially at the quarterback position. But at the same time too, I give credit where credit’s due.”
It’s not often that a player can join an 0-16 team and say with a straight face that he thinks he’s in a better place, but Landry quite clearly wasn’t thrilled with the situation in Miami, and is happy to be in Cleveland.
